June18th,2007 -I was asking kids what they want for breakfast and got a no for most of the listing. Atlast, Shivani said yes to Poptart so I heated it for 5sec and handing it over to her but she said she did not want that one too. I was arguing with her while holding the poptart plate in my hand that she has asked for the poptart. So with the irritated look I asked her whether she wanted ‘Debbalu’ meaning spanking for breakfast. With a calm face she wittily replied back saying Yes - in a plate.

Day 1 - Shivani had a wonderful 5th birthday. Shivani wanted all her ’Ohaana’ (Family) to be there in her room while she wakes up in the morning.So DP, myself and her chinni pinni Harini who came all the way from Chicago gathered in her room with home grown roses in our hands and ofcourse with her big gift - bicycle without helper wheels (Dad fixed it at midnight ). She woke up excitedly when we all started singing the B’day song loudly.

Both girls got ready wearing the clothes that Pinni got for them, but when they saw pinni staying at home, they did not want to go to school. Mom returned back at lunch took kids to McDonalds + Baskin & Robins and left them at the movie theatre to watch Surf’s up. ofcourse Harini is the one who saw stars:).

Dad came home early and was working on something, meanwhile Shivani dressed herself in Chudidaar and dressed her Sister in pattu lehengha (including buttoning of the blouse)  without taking any help from Harini and DP. We all three were really amazed when we saw the matching bangles along with their nice hairdo.

Then we went to Temple and from there to Chaitu Pinni’s house. Shivani and Suhani both had cut the cake, their pinni bought and we ordered Chinese food to home and enjoyed. We all slept in their house and came back home early in the morning.

Day 2: Shivani gave good lunch to her friends at school on Friday afternoon - All kids were excited saying - “oh! Shivani your birthday fell on waterday- How exciting”. After the lunch, again Shivani did not want to go back to school, so she went with Dad to his office. As promised Suhani went back to her class.

Day 3: Party theme: Playing (Games) + Making (crafts) + Baking (cookies)
Party started at 3pm, kids played musical chairs; then we made a nice craft called Boo-Boo Bunny watching it in TV. All the kids bunnies turned out cute. Then we all played kids Bingo (including Suhani) - Theme was baby animals. Kids had a blast while playing. Kids including adults were tickled when DP showed the the images in Big Screen while I was calling out the baby animals. All the players got gifts.

Then we did cake cutting as Suhani wanted to eat Akka’s cake and ate pizza. Then was the baking fun started. DP stiripped off the legs of old breakfast table and placed in the middle of the kitchen which we covered with a table cloth and layred it with the parchement paper on top. Kids sat around the table and made different shapes with cookie cutters. But during baking most of the shapes got disappeared. So few of the moms made shapes with cookie cutters after taking then out from oven while they were still hot. Once all were done kids regrouped again for decorating them, yes, most of them did relish their own baked cookies. Then it was the time for goodie bags. Shivani and Suhani had great fun with their friends.

June 11th Monday - As we were getting ready to leave from home, i was telling the girls to hurry up as I will be late to the meeting and Shivani asked what a is meant by meeting. So I started explaining her saying that we all sit in one room and plan about what we will be doing throught the whole week and how. So she immdiately asked me whether we will be planning for her Bday(party) which is coming on Thursday - June 14th and June16th is the party.

As everyday I was taking both my girls to their Daycare and was reading them their lesson plans. As Father’s day is coming up (Sunday - June 17th, 2007), most of the lesson plans were about making something for father’s day or talking about Fathers.

When they asked why we need to celebrate father’s day - I said that this is one way of thanking DAD’s for what they do for the kids. And I asked the kids what naana does for them all the time. And Shivani said - Naana does chicken and Naana does work all the time (as DP always sits in front of computer; ofcourse he is doing his MBA) to earn more money and get more food

And the same night Shivani is doing her Kumon and as usual naana is doing something on his laptop. When Suhani started disturbing her; Shivani was warning Suhani saying that she and naana are doing work - to get more money. After saying that she turned back to me and asked me “Amma am I doing all this work to get more money?”
