Growing hair

Shivani loves having long hair and loves to leave it open all the time, which I am really not in favor of. But I usually blackmail her all the time saying that if she eats healthy food she can grow long silky hair.

The other day while she was eating food, she had her hair opened up, and her hair was falling directly into food. I was so frustrated and yelled at her asking to tie her hair atleast while eating. She calmly said “Amma, I am feeding my hair so it can grow long” .

Tit for tat

Shivani was hungry and she wanted some food but when I ask her what she wants, she says ‘I don’t know’. Basically she was looking for some junk food. After some time she again sent her li’l sis for food. I asked Suhani what she wants and she answered ‘I don’t know’. So I said, by puting my empty hand on hers “Ok here is ‘I don’t know’, take it and give it to her”. She quitely took and went to their room. But within few minutes she came back running and said “Akka says you’ve given her the wrong ‘I don’t know’, she wants the right one.”

Making sure Teacher understands

Sept 3rd, 2008 – On the occasion of ‘Vinayaka Chavithi’, I took half a day off and did the puja in the morning. The actual plan was, after puja, drop kids at their respective schools and go back to work. But DP convinced me to take the whole day off so girls can be at home. I occasionally listen to him, and this was one those.

The next day I wrote a note to Shivani’s teacher asking her to excuse her as it was an Indian festival. I told the same to Suhani to tell her teacher.

In the evening Suhani said she told teacher that she was sick the day before as Ms Yvonne would not understand if she said it was ‘Ganesha’s Birthday’. She inturn explained me that if she says it was ‘God’s birthday’ her teacher would think it was ‘Christmas’.

Inquisitiveness

When Shivani was around 4yrs old, I was narrating Ramayana to her and was explaining that Dasaratha gave three cups of ‘payasam’ to his three beloved wifes. When Sumitra’s payasam will be eaten by the cat the other 2 shared their’s with her and so is the reason for Sumitra bearing 2 sons.

Shivani innocently asked what about the cat? Did it have kittens?

They listen but picks what then want

While I and Suhani went pick up Shivani, Suhani mentioned a boy, named Bryson, asked her to be his girl friend. She also told me that she said NO to him. I was expecting such questions but not at this early age, also I was expecting that from Shivani. Though I was smiling within myself, I put up a stern look on my face  and said this is not the age to talk about boy/girl friends and asked her not to talk such things at school.

When DP heard this, he said being in Pre- School if Bryson behaves like this he was wondering what Bryson would be doing in school and college.

Yesterday, at our perfecto (Shivani gave this name) dinner, I casually enquired Suhani about Bryson. She replied back saying she told Bryson and Caroline not to talk about girl/boy friends. I was very happy to hear that but she added ‘at school’’ at the end of the sentence.

So she thinks she can talk about boy friends outside school. She keeps telling everyone that she is going to marry one of my close friend’s son. He is five just started kindergarten.

(Not)Buy new erasers

Shivani was making too many mistakes in her homework, after a while, I observed that she was making them deliberately. When I asked her about that she replied back saying she wanted to test/use her newly bought fancy erasers. So during tests do not buy kids new erasers instead buy new pencils.
