Change of career

It was a ‘Career Day’ at school, so both girls were discussing what they will be when they grow up. Ofcourse, this discussion comes up pretty often. Suhani said “I want to be a Mom when I grow up”. Shivani said “You will be a Mom anyways but you can also be something like a teacher, librarian or a doctor”.

Shivani turned my side and said “Amma, you are just a mom and goes to office but you are not that ’something’”. As computer programmer usually not listed as a career in kids career list, so I was not anything.

Then I explained her saying “I work with computers, I am a programmer and I write programs”. Suhani with a surprised looke asked me “Do you do programs like on stage - dance programs, like Telugu Association programs - Sankranthi”. So now I have to change my career to a firefighter or a policeofficer or to a career which kids know so I can be ’something’.

BTW, Shivani wants to be a librarian and Suhani wants to be swiming teacher as of now.

Bhajan Month

We surely were inspired hearing to all bhajans and slokas sung by kids at Houston. Most of the kids we met were younger to Shivani, mostly Suhani’s age. One kid sings VishnuSahasraNamam vuvacha and other one Laxshmi Astotharam, another answers all capitals of all 50 states and other european countries.

Then I came to realize that kids being in US can sing sanskrit slokas at this young age. So from January09 kids re-started attending Sunday School. I started teaching kids bhajans and slokas everynight (Ok..most of the weekday nights) before  going to bed.

Suhani never ever sits by, she will always be playing around but listens to all of them. Now Shivani and Suhani sing few slokas includes Suklam bharadaram, Saraswathi namasthubyam, Asathoma sadgamaya, Gayatri Mantram, Karagre vasathe, Sarva mangala, Vakrathunda maha kaya, Gurur Vishnu and few bhajans Amba parameshawari, Raghupathi raghava, Subramanyam, Jai Durga, Chita chora. I should say Sunday School helped them. For fun DP recorded few and are at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnRClZaY7Kk ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10RMa1ub8aU

Lecture

Suhani was hyper past week. She was very allari and cranky. Last Sunday dad gave her several timeouts. One time of the day we both screamed at her and sent her to kids room. DP felt very bad and went to her room to talk over that issue. Before DP opened his mouth for discussion, Suhani said “Naana, I read (yes, I READ) in a book - there is a boy who does lot of allari and their parents always speak softly to him”. DP came back from kids room with look on his face like he is coming back from a timeout and Suhani followed him with a great satisfaction of changing his dad forever.
