Reading Labels
Girls love chewing bubble gum. Though it is a cool thing to chew on, my dislike towards bubble gum is increasing as whenever I ask them to eat, they show their gum in the mouth.
When I mentioned to Shivani that it does not contain any healthy stuff. She replies back saying that it is very nutritious. Later I had to explain her that ‘Nutrition facts’ on the label does not mean it is Nutritious.

Casting
Suhani will be wearing Saraswathi Devi costume in Sunday school annual skit. She is all excited about this and asked me who her husband is. When I answered Brahma, she was checking with me whether she gets to kiss Brahma on his lips. Now I am more interested in knowing who will enact as Brahma.

Translation
Girls learnt ‘Shantakaaram sloka’ and in there comes ‘dhyanagamyam’. Suhani pronounces ‘dhayanagamyam’ absolutely fine but adds a little tag to it - gamyam ’Gum(chewing) is yum’. She asks whether Gods like Gum too??
While I was reading a book, Suhani kicked the book with her legs, so I told her not to touch it with her legs. So she asked me not to touch the book with my hands too. I said my hands are clean and she said her legs are clean. Then slowly I started thinking why are legs considered inferior to hands in Hindu tradition. Though hands are superior but again left hand is inferior to right. And it is said that castes evolved from body parts of Vishnu, where untouchables evolved from Vishnu’s legs. Actually, hands are used for much dirtier jobs such as clean dirty dishes, work in dirty yard, clean bathrooms, trash cans and dirty diapers. Somehow, I felt that we should not show any partiality within our body parts. Left or right, hands or legs should have equal importance as people from all castes.

A Suhani is a Suhani is a Suhani
Kids played with the sand castle and water color paints this morning and stained the rug with some colors. When dad come home, he was upset seeing the paint on rug and by default questioned Suhani, ofcourse by default, she showed a clean spot and said “Akka did it here” then she showed the actual color spot and said “I “accidentally” did it here”. Dad said “I do not see color where Akka did it”. She replied back - “Where Akka did it, it is gone, but only the spot I “accidentally” did it is still here”.

Last name
While doing puja, Suhani was singing slokas for each deity. Saraswathi Namasthubyam for Saraswathi deity, KrishnaAstakam for Krishna and so on. I asked her to sing one on Durga devi and she asked me which one. I prompted ‘Sarva Mangala’, she said but Durga word does not occur in that sloka. I said ‘Gowri’ word in the sloka is ‘Durga’ devi’s name. Then she said “oh, so Gowri is her last name?”.
