Rhetorical Question

On past Saturday, Memphians had to witness the first of kind - Ganesh Nimmajanam in ICCT grounds. The day was very festive with great weather and amazing mood. There many number of food and retail stalls filled with Indian stuff. There was a special booth for MCs to keep the crowd entertained for almost 6 hours. All these floats from different states attached to trailors were coming in one after the other. Regional music was being played by for each float and crowd was dancing for the tradional music. There were huge speakers on their way to the main temple.

When Suhani and I passed by these loud speakers, she looked at me and asked “Amma, Do people who put up the speakers, even know there is something called EAR DRUMS?” I bursted out laughing.

Dinner table conversations

As usual Suhani gets up from her chair few times while having dinner. Once she got up to get a spoon then for water and then for a ruler. While eating and playing, she broke her sister’s ruler into pieces. She immediately put the ruler pieces aside and all of sudden concentrated on eating. When dad gave her a serious look, Suhani replied “Oh! this shows I am strong”

Not witty this time

While we were driving to Dr Appt at Asthma and Allergy center yesterday, I stopped by McDonalds for lunch. Shivani was enjoying her french fries and telling us that the salt on the hot fries is her favorite thing. During that discussion she was asking sissy to tell about the saltiest thing she has ever tasted. With a very innocent, look Suhani answered “The saltiest thing I’ve ever tasted is ‘salt’, Akka!!”.

Teach me in kids way

Suhani was reading Rainbow magic series books this morning and asked me the meaning and pronunciation of ”E..C..H..O..E..D”. I explained her how it echos in empty room, in mountains etc, also mentioned that in the book context someone repeated after other.

She gave me a blank expression and asked me “You mean echo is nothing but a copy cat”. Then it struck me that it is a much better way of explaining to kids.

ABCD’s way of describing

Last week I asked Shivani to get me ”Ariselu” (Indian sweet) from the other room. Shivani kept asking me what those are while I was busy talking to DP. Suhi suggested her sissy “Akka! just get it to her, it is nothing but some blah, blah, blah food”. The way Suhi answered with a funny expression and tone made us laugh out loud.

(blah, blah blah - nonsense, do not care, do not need to know)

C’mon - Kumon

Couples of days back, both of them were working on Kumon. I was lecturing Shivani how she need check and recheck her work. Suhani jumped in the conversation and said “Akka! You will be a bad teacher when you grow up”. “I don’t even want to be a teacher when I grow up” Shivani scorned back.  “Akka! You have to be a teacher atleast for your kids” Suhani replied with a big expression on her face nodding her head in more than four directions.
